[Suggestion] Additional race options in character page customization

Out of sheer boredom and procrastination I was scrolling through the character list of all characters with their race listed as 'other' with the then added in race. i think we have enough high elf characters to possibly just create a High Elf racial choice to go along with the other basic race options in the character creation page? Maybe even half-elves?

SO MANY GAT DANG ELVES. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing... usually.)

I believe this question was raised during WrA.net 2.0's beta regarding making characters. In reviewing this, I think some discussion could be had!

So, the races in the Race drop-down box are kept to the thirteen currently playable races to make in-game/Armory look-up easier. If you look at the guideline posted beneath the Race drop-down box:

Race selection should generally match a character's in-game race.

There is no stated guideline or rule on this page or in the Character Creation FAQ, and 'generally' is not good wording for a guideline or a rule. So, I think some clarification should definitely be added here. I think this should state that this field is for the race of your character in-game as you are playing them. "Other" could only be limited to cases ONLY where the character is an NPC or is not rolled in the game.

For uncommon/non-player races, additional information can be entered in the Subrace field, below. For example, you can list a character's race as "Blood Elf", but detail them as "Half-Elf" in the Subrace field.

"Subrace" in itself is a bit misleading to me --  if the field was renamed to something like "Racial or Ethnic Specification", with the same option to leave it blank, I feel like it'd be more inviting to write "Quel'dorei" or "Half-Elf" or "Half-Orc." I would like to keep the 'basic race options' in the drop-down box limited to what you can select in-game, similar to the "In-game Name" field. But I think a rule can be put down about how to properly use the fields to customize your character per their details!

What do you guys think?

I think this sounds workable, but I don't play any characters whose race don't match up in-game, so my feedback should perhaps not be weighted as heavily as someone that would actually benefit. :)

I like the idea of a racial or ethnic specification field, it seems more encouraging towards characters who technically match the in-game models but aren't necessarily aligned with the canon demographic. Non-Darkspear trolls come to mind, for example.

I agree with keeping the Race limited to in-game possibilities, though, just to avoid the mess of deciding what's popular or commonly accepted enough to warrant a category of its own.

Agreeing with the in-game race, specific race field -- though I'm not really sure what to name the specification field!

Right now, the 'other' races seem to be split half an half between their in-game race and the 'other' field, so it might help to consolidate that some.

One question: For characters not rolled in-game, but of a standard game race, we'd still want to list them as the race they'd be in-game, or?

I think so.  I do like the idea of labeling the other field 'ethnicity'.  Since you can have a lot of variety among ethnic groups.

I'm indifferent to this. It really only applies to people who don't do much roleplay in game. With MRP and TRP the issue is fixed without much issue. That's just me though.
